After a successful period trialling with our first team in recent weeks, Merstham Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of exciting & prolific winger Ellis Brown.
The 23 year old put pen to paper before last nights friendly at home vs Farnborough. Ellis spent last season at Waltham Abbey, winning player of the year and reaching double figures in his goal return as a wide player. Ellis was a product of the Charlton academy where he enjoyed 10 years at the club. He then signed a one year Pro contract at Southend.
Frank Wilson has this to say about signing Ellis Brown:
‘Ellis has impressed us in recent weeks - he’s played in the last 3 games and we feel he has improved in each performance. I put that down to him becoming more familiar with everyone and his confidence in what he’s notably good at - he’s a quick, powerful wide player with an eye for goal. I felt that last night was his strongest performance against a farnborough side who were particularly strong at the back and their left wing back was a size as well. We thought Ellis looked a threat all night and exploited wide areas really well - especially on the right hand side. He got a stiff talking to from all of us at half time because he got himself
Into really threatening positions and he failed to recognise the times when he should’ve put balls into runners or picked our support runners out. We eventually scored our goal from his burst down the right and him recognising who to pick out - and Christian tapped in far post. Very pleasing when he does the right thing at the right time and he’s accepting responsibility which is equally as pleasing to see. We are very happy to get him signed on - the hard work continues.’
Welcome to Merstham, Ellis!
